Help! My husband likes bland food. He won't eat anything really spicy,or strange. I am hoping someone has a website or good recipes that he will actually eat?
Thanks!Easy recipes for a picky husband?
My hubby can be the same way, not very daring when it comes to food, here are the things I make alot of the time:
Chicken with lemon and garlic, with rice pilaf and salad
Meatloaf, baked potatoes
Bar be qued ribs with mashed potatoes
Chicken casserole, with rice, cheese, salsa, veggies and cream of chicken soup. Layer and bake, fairly simple
Blts on sourdough bread with veggie soup
Grilled cheese with ham, and tomato soup
Pork chops baked with red onion slices, lemon, ketchup, and bar be que sauce... sounds strange but really yummy.
Honey glazed ham
Chili hot dogs
Spaghetti with meat sauce or meat balls
Chicken or beef tacos... Love those!
Lasagna and salad
Tuna casserole
Carne Asada on the grill with rice and beans and warm tortillas, guac and sour cream
Home made potato cheese soup with french bread and salad
Chicken pot pies with salad
Fried chicken with gravy and coleslaw
Fresh fishes, like salmon or halibut with lemon, garlic and butter.
Chicken and brocolli quiche with fresh fruit or a salad.
Baked shells stuffed with spinache, mushrooms and ricotta cheese.
If you are interested in any of these recipes feel free to email me, they are all fairly basic though.
If all else fails, resort to hamburger helper meals LOL! Good luck hon! :)Easy recipes for a picky husband?
Homemade Mac and Cheese.- easy to fix
- Not spicy but not too bland either - Very tasty! Bet he loves it!
Ingredients:
1 - 16 slice pkg any flavor cheese slices
1 small box macaroni or other pasta
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons margaine or butter
2 teaspoons cornstarch or flour
Start boiling water to cook the box of pasta.
In another small pot put in 2 tablespoons of butter and melt slowly, add cornstarch or flour and stir with spoon quickly until mixed into a little ball. Remove from heat. This is the thickening agent.
Meanwhile cook entire small box of pasta to taste, drain and set aside.
Measure one cup of milk and unwrap all the cheese slices except for 3. Put small pot back on medium heat and add 1/3 of milk and stir -- adding 1st 2 slices of cheese - and slowly keep stirring until melted, adding a little more milk and more cheese until all is melted - Sauce should be thick.
WATCH FOR BURNING - TURN DOWN HEAT IF IT APPEARS TO START TO TURN BROWN OR SMOKE.
When all is melted remove from heat source and place on cool surface. Put drained pasta in a ovenproof dish and pour cheese sauce over it and blend. Add the 3 extra slices on top and place under broiler in oven for 14 seconds to crust or if you want, skip this part and add the extra slices into the sauce earlier.
I find that most men like hearty meals. There's nothing better than Irish Stew or Beef in Beer. I have a few examples on my website below. Here's one recipe for Irish Rarebit:
Ingredients
2 tablespoons of butter (or margarine).
2 tablespoons of plain flour (used to thicken).
1 teaspoon of mustard (I use a mild French mustard, but you can use your own favorite).
1 teaspoon honey (not necessary for the recipe, but adds a subtle sweetness).
1/2 cup milk.
1/2 cup Guinness (if you don't have Guinness, any stout will do).
1 cup Cheddar cheese, grated (you can use your favorite cheese).
Salt and pepper.
Cooking instructions
Melt butter and slowly stir in flour, ensuring no lumps form.
Cook on a low heat until it turns slightly brown.
Remove pan from heat and slowly mix in the milk.
Return to heat and stir gently until the liquid thickens.
Add mustard, honey and Guiness.
Cook on a medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
Turn down the heat to lowest setting and add the cheese, gently stirring until melted.
Spread over toast and brown the slightly under a grill
Wow! I wouldn't be able to live if I had to cook bland foods! I like flavor! I'm kinda at a loss here, but short of ditching the husband, I would think you would be able to make most recipes simple and low on flavor. Just cut out the spices and seasonings.
You can also stick to the basics... A meat item (steak) and a vegetable item (green salad). Just mix and match. Pork chops and green beans, pot roast w/ carrots and potatoes, roast chicken and corn (maybe some stuffing on the side), grilled chicken breast and broccoli, chicken fried steak and mashes potatoes... but that last one might be pushing it. If he doesn't like a lot of things added to his food, then keep it simple. DON'T add anything. Don't make complex dishes that are bland, just throw a hunk of meat on the grill, and a veggie in the steamer, let each person add salt and pepper to taste, and voila! I would invest in a TON of condiments though, so you can add flavor to YOUR food.
Failing that... Ask him to find some recipes that he would like you to make. Even invite him into the kitchen with you. If he is helping you prepare, then he has some control over what the outcome is.
Here is s simple chili recipe... If the chili beans that it calls for have too much in them (read the can) you can just use a can of plain beans, kidney, pinto, black, navy... whatever. Serve with some simple cornbread. Jiffy conbread mix is good.
INGREDIENTS
* 1 pound ground beef
* 1 (16 ounce) can chili beans, un strained
* 1 (14.5 ounce) can peeled and diced tomatoes with juice
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
DIRECTIONS
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook beef until brown. Stir in beans, tomatoes, onion and bell pepper; reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes.
Poor you; I would die if someone took my herbs and spices away.

Try a simple beef pot roast with carrots and other veggies cooked right with the roast and then mashed potatoes on the side or put some halved potatoes in with the roast.
KraftFoods.com has some good recipes. I use their recipe for ';Mae Over Chicken Tetrazzini'; and then add a few more veggies.
TasteOfHome.com has a lot of ';comfort food'; recipes.
Try pork chops - pan browned or grilled or broiled.
Think casseroles so you can sneak some veggies in without him complaining.
When the weather allows, use an outdoor bbq grill for all meats, potatoes, and veggies.
Give us a clue of what he does like.... what is his favourite food?
